Real Sociedad are hoping Martin Odegaard on loan from Real Madrid would honour his second year on loan at the club, according to Sociedad president Jokin Aperribay.

The midfielder joined the Basque club in last summer on a two-year loan deal after returning from a loan spell in the Dutch Eredivise.

Odegaard has came into the limelight with his impressive performances for La Real where he has given an option to his parent club.

The 21-year-old has scored four times and assisted five times for the fourth-placed team in the Spanish top-flight.

Sociedad’s club president however, spoke to the press and shared his opinion on the future of the Norway international.

“I think Odegaard is going to stay, that’s what we’re hoping,” Aperribay said. “If Martin Odegaard stays with Real Sociedad he has to be sure about it being the best thing for him next season. He knows what we want and Real Madrid too, but we have to respect both parts because he’s a Real Madrid player.

“He joined us for two seasons but you can’t complete two-year loan deals in La Liga and they have to be activated by the players instead. We’re hoping he stays and we think he’s going to stay.”

With Los Blancos unlikely to make any signings in the summer due to the coronavirus pandemic, they could be force to cut short Odegaard’s loan deal in a bid to have more squad depth for the 2020/21 campaign.
