Real Madrid full-back Marcelo has called for changes after his Black Lives Matter protests celebration after scoring his team’s third goal against Eibar.

Real Madrid won their first game since the league’s restart against Eibar at the Di Stefano Stadium by 3-1. Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos and Marcelo scored for Los Blancos yesterday. After adding the team’s third, Marcelo celebrated by the kneeling down. Brazilian defender Marcelo has also urged others to stand up for the cause and support the Black Lives Matter protests.

“Happy to be back with Real Madrid!” Marcelo wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of him kneeling. “Happy to have scored a goal!

“But even happier to see all the CHANGES in the world! Now it’s time. We must use the power we have and start making real CHANGES.”

After the above caption, Marcelo added 2pac’s quote below his post with his celebration picture.

“We can never go nowhere unless we share with each other. We gotta start makin’ changes,” Marcelo quoted 2pac. “Learn to see me as a brother instead of two distant strangers. And that’s how it’s supposed to be…

“I’d love to go back to when we played as kids but things change, and that’s the way it is…”

Football in Spain has resumed for the first time in three months. While players and fans are happy over the restart, some players have used the game as a platform to stand in solidarity of the protestors of Black Lives Matter. Kneeling has been used by players to support the cause.
