Athletic Bilbao vs Real Madrid: Madrid to break two years winless run


Real Madrid will have the chance once again to continue their fine form in recent times when they go away to visit Athletic Bilbao on Sunday.

Zinedine Zidane’s side are without a win their last two visit to the San Mames in the Spanish La Liga, with their last win there coming three seasons ago.

Madrid will also be looking to extend their lead to seven points over weekend, with Barcelona set to play latter that day against Villarreal.

Since the league’s restart, Athletic have been in top form, winning three, drawing two and suffering one defeat in that time.

Madrid on the other hand have won of their games in the same period, winning six out of six games with a further five to go until the end of the season.

Gaizka Garitano’s men are currently languishing in eight position on the league table, four points off the last Europa League spot occupied by Getafe.

Athletic are also yet to beat the club in the Spanish capital since March 2015, with four of the last five meetings ending leveled.

Garitano’s men will be without midfielder Benat due to a hip problem. Aside that, Athletic have no injury problems heading into the game against Madrid

For Zidane, Raphael Varane is a doubt having sustained a head injury against Getafe, coming off in the first half. Eden Hazard should be back for the game over the weekend after missing the last game.

Luka Jovic and Lucas Vazquez are also back with the team.
