AS Roma are edging closer to the signing of Real Madrid forward Borja Mayoral, per reports in the Spanish press.

The Spain international understood to have put pen to paper on a new three-year deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, which runs until the end of the 2022/23 campaign, and will now move to Italy on loan.

Reports also state that it will be a two-year loan spell but Roma will have the option to make the deal for the 23-year-old permanent at the end of the current campaign 15 million euros.

Should the Serie A side wait till the end of the second year, that amount will go up by an additional 5 million euros, which means they will pay 20 million for the forward.

Prior to returning to Madrid this summer, Mayoral had spent two season on loan at Levante, where he scored 14 times and assisted a further four in 69 outings.

Mayoral will become the latest player to be allowed to depart the club this summer as Los Blancos continue to seek deals that will fetch them funds as they try to recover from the financial crisis as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The club have already sanctioned moves for Achraf Hakimi, Sergio Reguilon, Oscar Rodriguez, Javi Sanchez and James Rodriguez with all of them leaving in a permanent deal while Gareth Bale, Takefusa Kubo and Reinier Jesus have only been handed temporal exit from Zinedine Zidane’s side.

Roma and Mayoral’s agent were understood to have reached terms on Thursday afternoon after negotiations, and the Spaniard will fly into Italy on Friday to undergo his medical checks while also signing his contract at the Stadio Olimpico.

The striker has already featured in the two games for Madrid in this season’s top-flight, coming on substitutes in the victories over Real Betis and Real Valladolid.
