Real Madrid have suffered an injury blow to their squad ahead of this weekend’s La Liga clash with Cadiz at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium.

Martin Odegaard becomes the latest player to have taken to the treatment table with fixtures piling up for the Los Blancos in the next three weeks.

A report published by the club on the their official website indicates that the Norway international has suffered a calf injury and is unlikely to feature for Zinedine Zidane’s side in the next few games.

The official statement reads: “After the tests carried out today on our player Martin Ødegaard by the Real Madrid medical department, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the right soleus muscle. His recovery will continue to be assessed.”

Considering the intensity of the fixtures in the coming days, Odegaard’s injury is a big blow for Zinedine Zidane who is keen to give more opportunities to the promising attacking midfielder.

After impressing with the national team, the gaffer was looking to hand him an opportunity this weekend with the Champions League campaign also coming up next week before the much anticipated league encounter with Barcelona a week tomorrow.

With the difficulty involved in recovering from a muscle injury, both the club and the player would have to be patient with the recovery process and hope that the player returns to his best before unleashing him once again.
