It’s been over two years since Santiago Solari was handed the managerial role at Real Madrid but he could only last for five months.
His time in the dugouts may not have lasted as long as he would have wished but everyone could tell the former Madrid player was looking to build a team capable of challenging once again.
Solari introduced Sergio Reguilon, Federico Valverde and Marcos Llorente to the first team at the Santiago Bernabeu while also making Vinicius Junior a key player in the squad during his short spell. He was looking to move on several first team players at the club back then.
At a point, it seemed that some Madrid senior players were almost certain to lose their place in the team if not being sold later by the same boss.
A widely report back in March 2019 claimed that quite a number of first players had fallen out with then manager Solari. Some of the names which popped up included that of Marcelo, Isco and Marco Asensio.
Interestingly, other media outlets reported that Solari was considering letting go off the trio, a news many had to laugh about back then.
But after recent performances, it seemed Solari was all but right after all. Both Marcelo and Isco have been made to pay for their poor form in a long run by being made to sit on the bench for most part of Zinedine Zidane’s second spell at the club.
Neither of Isco nor Marcelo has been handed starts in quick succession and that is worrying for both the players as well as the club.
For Asensio, it is disheartening to know that for all the minutes he has been given since bursting onto the scene at Madrid, the Spain international has scored just 13 goals.
Considering he was regarded as one of the players to be instrumental for the club after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, 13 in his entire Madrid career so far is just not what the club needs.
Asensio would really have to up his game if he is to avoid the media backslash he’s been facing since his return from the long term knee injury.
It is sad to see these three players struggle to find their best form and perform below expectations but it only justifies the reported claims of Santiago Solari.
