Real Madrid on Saturday turned on the show when they visited the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan stadium for their La Liga game.
Zinedine Zidane’s side had gone three games without a win in the league following their last victory coming in October against Huesca.
An own goal in the 55th minute from Sevilla goalkeeper Bono gave the visitors all three points taking them to the third position.
Going into the game, the Madrid manager had come under serious criticism for the kind of performances his team has shown in the last few weeks which has left them living on a thin line in their UEFA Champions League group.
Zinedine made one change from the starting XI against Shakhtar Donetsk in midweek with Vinicius Junior replacing Marco Asensio in the lineup.
The first 45 minutes saw the home side dominate Madrid in possession but the away side made the most attempts on goal – seeing three of their six attempts be on target but were unlucky to get a goal.
After the recess, Sevilla looked more threatening with Lucas Ocampos and Luuk de Jong all finding their efforts on target while also calling Thibaut Courtois into action.
However, it was the Los Blancos who opened the scoring after a brilliant build up saw Karim Benzema put Ferland Mendy in an advantageous point on the left flank. The left-back decided to play in Vinicius on goal but his square pass deflected off the home team’s goalkeeper and went into the net to give the win to the defending champions of the league.
The win also means that Zidane’s side are now six points behind first-placed Atlético Madrid, after the latter’s win later on the same day.
Madrid now turn their attention to the all important game against Borussia Mönchengladbach on Wednesday that could determine their fate in the Champions League.
