Real Madrid will be without defender Raphael Varane for their UEFA Champions League game against Chelsea on Wednesday.

The centre-back is set to miss out on the game after suffering an injury to the right abductor muscles.

Raphael Varane was withdrawn at half-time during the league game against Osasuna on Saturday night after having discomforts and was replaced by Nacho Fernandez.

And now, after undergoing tests on Monday morning, the player is set to be on the sidelines for some time ruling him out of the game against the Premier League side.

A statement on the club’s official website read: Following the tests carried out today on our player Raphaël Varane by the Real Madrid medical services, he has been diagnosed with an injury to the right abductor muscle. His recovery will be monitored.

Madrid and Chelsea played out a 1-1 draw at the Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium last week with Christian Pulisic and Karim Benzema scoring for their respective clubs.

Varane’s absence will not really be a problem for Zinedine Zidane, who is likely to have Sergio Ramos and Ferland Mendy available for the trip to London while they also wait on the Covid-19 results of Federico Valverde.

Varane was not available for the quarter-finals game against Liverpool earlier in April but played a role in the first-leg encounter against Thomas Tuchel’s side but Ramos’ availability should ease the pressure on Zidane.
