Real Madrid have completed the signing of versatile defender David Alaba, the club has officially confirmed.

The 28-year-old has put pen to paper on a five-year contract at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, which will see him stay in the Spanish capital until at least the summer of 2026.

In an official post on the club’s website on Friday, the statement read:

Real Madrid C. F. has reached an agreement with David Alaba for the player to join the club for the next five seasons.

David Alaba will be unveiled as a new Real Madrid player after the end of the 2021 European Championship.

Having spent his last ten years in Germany, Alaba was a crucial member of the Bayern Munich side, playing a huge role in all two of the clubs’ treble-winning seasons in 2013 and 2020 respectively.

With the futures of Sergio Ramos and Raphael Varane uncertain at the moment, the Austria international is a good addition to the Los Blancos side, while his versatility could prove pivotal during his time with Madrid.

The high-flying star could also be an option at left-back should Madrid face injury crises as was the case throughout the 2020/21 season, fighting for a spot together with Ferland Mendy and the highly-rated Miguel Gutierrez.

Whatever gets to be the decision of Ramos and Varane, Alaba’s signing could be a great coup for the next Madrid manager.
