Former Germany international, Toni Kroos says he hopes to retire from football at the Santiago Bernabeu.
The midfielder recently announced his decision to retire from international football after Germany were knocked out of the Euro 2020 by England in the round of 16.
Kroos was involved in an interview with German media, Bild where he discussed his future as well as plans after retiring from international football.
“I believe that the year 2023 is appropriate, I will be 33 years old. I will decide whether I will renew for a season or two, that is still open for discussion, but I am completely sure that I will retire at Real Madrid,” the 31-year-old said.
Kroos, who currently has just two years left on his current deal with Real Madrid also mentioned that there is a feeling his football is well appreciated in Spain than it is back in the country, Germany.
“I don’t want to accuse everyone in Germany because there are many fans that appreciate me but at times I had the feeling that some didn’t appreciate what I did over my 11 years there. It’s different in Spain, everyone has been grateful to me since my first match seven years ago,” he added.
The midfielder made 106 appearances for Germany across all competitions, scoring 17 times and making 19 assists. He was also a member of the German squad who won the 2014 world cup in Brazil.
