Real Madrid could confirm the departure of midfielder, Martin Odegaard in the coming days after the player asked to leave.
Odegaard had been touted as one for the future to lead the Los Blancos, having posed a wide range of talent within him. However, Madrid are set to miss out on the player for good with a move to the Premier League side, Arsenal looking imminent per reports.
Odegaard spent the last season on loan at the North London club and despite his battle with injuries left a slight impression in the minds of the team’s management.
Upon the arrival of Carlo Ancelotti and the extension of Luka Modric’s contract for just a year, the Norway international was expected to play a huge role for the club in the 2021/22 season.
The player reportedly looked uncertain about having a future at the Santiago Bernabeu and was convinced a move away will be the best after not being guaranteed assurances of being handed regular opportunities.
While both Madrid and Arsenal are nearing an agreement for the transfer, it is being reported that the 22-year-old’s departure from the Spanish capital will be a permanent one.
The English side are well prepared to meet Madrid’s 40 million euros demand though it is not quite clear whether the club will include any buy-back clause in the deal.
While his departure will be a great loss, it could also be an opportunity for former Arsenal teammate Dani Ceballos to fight for a place in Ancelotti’s team this season after two seasons with the London outfit.
