Real Madrid was held to a goalless draw at the Santiago Bernabeu in their 10th league game this season by Osasuna.
The game, which took place on Wednesday, October 27, saw the Los Blancos fail to beat the away side despite moving top of the league table.
Before the game, Osasuna had the best award record in the league, winning four and drawing one in five games played away from their own turf.
Carlo Ancelotti made changes to his squad for the game as he decided to give rest to some of the players who started the game against Barcelona over the weekend.
Dani Carvajal, Eduardo Camavinga, and Marco Asensio were all given a starting berth by the Italian coach replacing Lucas Vazquez, Luka Modric and Rodrygo Goes from the first blast of the whistle.
Madrid started the game on a good note throwing everything at the away side but could hardly get any closer to scoring with Osasuna’s great defending abilities.
Despite having the better numbers in terms of ball possession in the opening half, Ancelotti’s men could only manage two shots on target from the nine they attempted, while they also limited Osasuna to no shot on target.
Madrid went into the first-half break with frustration having failed to put the ball at the back of the opposition net but the second period of the game was just evidence of a bad day from the league leaders.
Osasuna came close to breaking the deadlock when Kike Garcia’s shot came off the post with the rebound off Carvajal almost ending up in his own net.
Just like the earlier half, the goalkeeper was on top of his game to ensure his side take their at least a point from the Bernabeu for the very first time since December 2005, when they played 1-1 with Madrid.
The draw means Madrid go top of the LaLiga table, level on points with Sevilla, Real Betis, and Real Sociedad – all with 21 points.
