Vinicius Junior brace sees Real Madrid beat Elche

Brazil international, Vinicius Junior was twice on the score sheet as Real Madrid beat Elche in the Spanish La Liga on Saturday.

Real Madrid moved to the top of the league table with a 2-1 win away from home after a poor outing the last time in the competition.

Madrid looked shaky from the start of the game but gradually eased their way into the encounter.

But Rodrygo Goes had to be substituted 15 minutes into the game after picking up an injury. He was replaced by Marco Asensio for the remainder of the clash.

Two minutes later, Thibaut Courtois came up top with a brilliant save to deny the home side an early lead and keep his side going.

The breakthrough came in the 22nd minute of the game when a swift build up from Madrid resulted in Mariano Diaz assisting Vinicius for the first goal of the afternoon. Considering how hard he had worked in the opening minutes, the Brazilian’s goal was a well-deserving one.

The Los Blancos went into the break with just the goal lead after failing to add to their opener.

Elche, playing at home were far from their best and Madrid had little trouble in the opening half.

After the recess, the home side looked a different side and pressed Madrid anytime they lost the ball.

Their early second-half pressure almost resulted in Marcelo putting the ball into his own net after a clearance from David Alaba.

Midfielder Raul Guti was sent off in the 67th minute for a poor challenge on Toni Kroos – receiving a second yellow card, hing been booked already in the first half.

Real Madrid capitalise on the sending off, this time, Luka Modric playing Vinicius on goal to score his seventh league goal this campaign.

The forward has been in tremendous form and could get even better should he continue to deliver day-in and day-out.

Pere Milla came off the bench to score a consolation goal for Elche to end the game 2-1 in Madrid’s favour.
