International break may have come at the wrong time for Carlo Ancelotti & Real Madrid

After this weekend’s round of games, club football is set to be on hold for the next two weeks as international football takes its turn on the calendar.

Real Madrid were 2-1 winners over the weekend as they beat Rayo Vallecano at the Santiago Bernabeu to go back to second on the league table.

The Los Blancos are currently one point behind Real Sociedad, who occupy the top position, having played one game more than Madrid.

On what was a good weekend, Madrid saw both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona bottle a leads at half-time to only manage a draw against Valencia and Celta Vigo respectively.

The win for Madrid wrapped up a pretty period of good results for Carlo Ancelotti’s men ahead of the international break. Madrid is currently without a loss in their last six games, winning five of those.

With the kind of form Madrid is currently on, the international may have come at the wrong time for the team to have a rest collectively.

Ancelotti’s men have a total of 14 players called up by their national teams for the respective games during the break.

Karim Benzema, Vinicius Junior, Eder Militao, and David Alaba are among those who have been given call-ups to their respective teams. The worry for the manager will be whether their involvement with the national will help their continuity or just earn them a place on the substitute bench.

Real Madrid has put in some impressive performances after the last international break and that has been key to the Italian manager identifying his permanent starting line-up.

For every Madrid fan, the objective will be to see their players return from the international without any casualties, not any different from the prayers of Ancelotti – considering the next round of fixtures around for the team until the Christmas break.
