Transfer Update: Should Real Madrid allow Luka Jovic to leave?

Luka-Jovic-Real-Madrid-Future

In June 2019, Real Madrid announced the signing of young Serbian striker Luka Jovic from Eintracht Frankfurt. A deal that many saw to be ideal for a direct backup for Karim Benzema.

A lot was expected from the striker as he was in hot prior to signing his contracts with the Los Blancos. However, Jovic has failed to live up to expectations at the Santiago Bernabeu and has fallen out of favour in the current Madrid squad.

In 2020, due to his poor form, Madrid decided to loan him back to his former side Frankfurt to help rediscover his form back but things went from bad to worse when he returned, picking up a series of injuries that sidelined him for many weeks.

He has made only 32 la Liga appearances since 2019 and has scored 3 goals.

Jovic was linked to several moves away from Real Madrid during the winter transfer window but the player was unwilling to move. Arsenal was amongst notable clubs.

Now, the question many are asking is, should Madrid cut their losses on the Serbia international and allow him to leave in the summer?

The masses are obviously eager to see him shine in a Madrid shirt but Bezema’s rich vein of form means Jovic has become a forgotten man at the club.

Lack of playing time is retarding the development of the player. As a young striker, Jovic needs more playing time to boost his confidence in front of goal and return back to his fine form.

Benzema is still showing signs that he can still be the dependable striker for Madrid in 2-3 years more years to come, making it difficult for Luka Jovic to get enough minutes on the field of play.

Moreover, it is more likely that Kylian Mbappe would join the Los Blancos during the summer especially after exiting from the UEFA Champions League in the round 16th stage.

Although Mbappe isn’t a typical number 9, he’s adapted to play in that position sometimes. Making a shift in that position whenever Benzema isn’t available wouldn’t be a problem

Due to this, there would be a tall list of the pecking order in Madrid’s attacking options for Jovic to get enough playing time.

It will be ideal for Jovic to make a move in order to save his career as his time in Madrid will only worsen his situation if he doesn’t improve and impress Carlo Ancelotti.

A loan deal to a new club in the summer isn’t ruled out yet for the striker.

For encouragement, Jovic has strongly been linked with Borussia Dortmund and a move to the German side will do him a lot of good than harm considering Erling Braut Haaland has been heavily linked with a transfer away from the Signal Iduna Park.
