Having failed to sign up Frenkie de Jong this summer despite a long chase, Manchester United moved swiftly to acquire the services of Casemiro. The Brazilian defensive midfielder, a key component of the Real Madrid midfield, was signed by Man United for up to £70 million.
Many believed although his transfer came as a little of a shock, it was ideal to get him because United needed to reinforce the defensive midfield role in their team.
Many have bought into the idea that he was a necessity buy, while others are also of the idea that the midfielder’s arrival was a panic buy for Erik ten Hag.
Manchester United wanted to make amends for lack of activity before the transfer deadline on September 1 while the window was open since alternatives were running out.
Frenkie was the Dutchman’s first option but a deal was far from being secured as the player wanted to stay at the Catalan club.
Did Casemiro really require the move? Not really. Did Man United really need a defensive midfielder to solve their issues? Yes!
Despite arriving as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world at the moment and winning five Champions League trophies, it was thought that he would easily move into the United starting lineup.
However, since his arrival, he has found it difficult to break into the team as Scott Mctomminay is preferred to start ahead of him.
The coach sorely believes in the Brazilian midfielder and he’s giving him much time to adapt to the new terrain.
His arrival has helped increased the Scot man, who has produced some excellent performances since Casemiro arrived. A real and healthy competition has been created in the defensive midfield role since Casemiro came to the theatre of dreams.
McTominay has performed well in United’s recent four-game winning streak, partnering Christian Eriksen in the midfield of a 4-2-3-1. Their partnership comes with clear responsibilities.
It will take a bit of underperforming for Casemiro to nail down a spot in the first XI and unsettle McTominay, who is on the rise.
It’s too early to conclude on this topic but Casemiro joining Manchester United is far from being a panic buy.
