Thibaut Courtois has admitted that he always had discussions with compatriot Eden Hazard in the Chelsea dressing room regarding a move to Spain.

The pair form a part of Zinedine Zidane’s squad at Real Madrid despite a year difference in their departure from England.

Courtois joined Madrid in the summer 2018 as part of a deal that took Matteo Kovacic to Chelsea on loan before being made permanent; while Hazard was involved in a big money money move last summer from the Blues.

However, the keeper said they always had talks about the move in the locker room at Chelsea as they had long term plans to play at the Spanish club.

“Now, we are very eager to win trophies.”

Having secured the dream move to the Santiago Bernabeu, neither Courtois or Hazard has put up performances most of the fans were expecting. After a poor first season which looked like the Belgium goalkeeper would be sidelined, a convincing 2019/20 campaign has seen him regain the trust of many.

Hazard on the other have had his move stricken with injuries as he has on been in the Madrid shirt for just 15 times in the current season, scoring just once. The former Chelsea attacker is prepared to go again was the La Liga is resumes having missed action since February 22. With his potential, Roberto Martinez, who has Hazard under his guidance for the national team believes the player is capable of winning the Balon D’Or in Spain.

Real Madrid continue to train for a return to fight for the La Liga title where they are two points behind leaders Barcelona.

Zidane’s side also have a return league with Manchester City in store after losing the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final game at the Santiago Bernabeu.
