Thibaut Courtois kept his 100th clean sheet in La Liga for Los Blancos in a disappointing goalless draw against Villarreal.
The Belgian is now one of the only five goalkeepers to keep 100+ clean sheets in La Liga in the 21st century, with only Jan Oblak (182) achieving the landmark in fewer games than Courtois (217).
The Real Madrid no.1 is unquestionably one of the best goalkeepers in world football. He has played for high-profile clubs like Chelsea and Atletico Madrid.
The Dutchman also has two Premier League and La Liga trophies in his cabinet and was awarded the Best Men’s Goalkeeper by Fifa in 2018.
Courtois is currently in stellar form, having made numerous jaw-dropping saves for the club and has saved 23 of the last 27 shots on target he has faced in all the competitions.
The Belgian was not happy at the end of the Villarreal game even after achieving the milestone and said, “It is a bit of a bitter draw because it is at home, and if a direct rival loses you want to win the three points. The point is not enough for us. A clean sheet is not bad after conceding in the last games.”
He added, “We have prepared the game to try to put pressure on them, but in the first half they did very well. It was difficult to take the ball from them. We have missed too many passes. Sometimes it happens.”
Thibaut Courtois is undoubtedly one of the fundamental players in Ancelloti’s squad and has become irreplaceable. The Italian boss was full of praise for his goalkeeper and said, “If we have a keeper like Courtois we’re lucky,” he said. “He did well, above all in the first half. They were dangerous on the counter and Courtois is there. A clean sheet is positive.”
