David Alaba added to Real Madrid’s injury worries

Real Madrid have been hit with yet another blow after David Alaba is said to have picked up an injury.

Alaba joined Austria for the October international break as they continued their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign. He featured in his country’s win over the Faroe Islands before succumbing to a 0-1 defeat to Denmark on Wednesday as they dropped to fourth on the table.

The 29-year-old played the entire minutes of all two games and looked certain to return to Spain in good condition.

However, the latest reports reveal the player looks to have suffered an injury to his knee and could miss Madrid’s next game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Though there has been no official report from the club just yet, Alaba is expected to undergo tests to confirm whether he will be out for a long time or not.

Since sealing a free move to Madrid in the summer, David Alaba has featured in all of the club’s games this season – playing either as a central defender or on the left side of defence.

Alaba joins Eder Militao and Eden Hazard, who were also injured while on international duty, in the treatment room with their involvement against Shakhtar ruled out due to their situations.

Injuries to Miliato and Alaba means, Carlo Ancelotti has just Jesus Vallejo and Nacho Fernandez as his only first-team options for central defence when club football resumes over the weekend.

Though the right-back position is still yet to be sorted out with Dani Carvajal still on the sidelines, Ferland Mendy has completely recovered from his setback and is expected to be involved in the game against Shakhtar Donetsk.

Ancelotti has seen his side suffer their first two defeats of the season prior to the international break and will be hoping to get his side to bounce back to winning when they face the Ukraine outfits.
