Real Madrid were far too good for RCD Mallorca on Wednesday night, when the pair met in the Spanish La Liga.
The Los Blancos thumped Mallorca by six goals to one at the Santiago Bernabeu with Madrid playing one of the best football so far this campaign.
A hat-trick from Marco Asensio, a Karim Benzema brace and a goal from Isco Alarcon Suarez made sure Madrid made an emphatic statement against Mallorca.
Carlo Ancelotti made four changes to the starting line up that saw off Valencia over the weekend, with Miguel Gutierrez, Marco Asensio, Eduardo Camavinga and Rodrygo Goes all starting midweek’s clash.
Madrid opened the scoring as early as the third minute when Benzema pounced on a mistake from the Mallorca defence to put his side in the lead.
Asensio doubled the lead 11 minutes later but Mallorca responded immediately to make it 2-1 but the Spanish international made it three for Madrid and two for himself before the end of the first-half.
Madrid looks to have found their free-scoring form once again after that first half performance and it was more of that in the second period of the game.
Benzema had a goal disallowed five minutes after the recess, but the hat-trick was Asensio’s to complete after finishing off the Frenchman’s pass into his path in the 55th minute of the game.
On the 60th minute mark, Antonio Blanco, Isco and Vazquez were all introduced into the game as Madrid searched for more goals to put the game to bed.
Benzema grabbed his eight league goal of the season, assisted by David Alaba before going off to a standing ovation at the Bernabeu as he was replaced by Luka Jovic.
With six minutes to go, Isco wrapped up the three points and scored his first Madrid goal since scoring against Manchester City in the UEFA Champions League two seasons ago.
Madrid now go top of the league log after amassing 16 points in the six games played so far. They host Villarreal next in the league on Saturday.
