The issue of the importance of a new defensive midfielder at Real Madrid is one that has been on the lips of many supporters for sometime now.

At some point it looked as if the club had discovered their own heir to Carlos Henrique Casemiro in the person of Marcos Llorente. However, his continuous demand for playing time at the expense of the Brazil international meant that he was allowed to depart the Santiago Bernabeu.

It is surprising to know that a club as historical and huge as Madrid has Casemiro as the only natural defensive midfielder in the team.

They have been many attempts to use other players as makeshifts for that position but their performances has yet to reach the bar set by the Brazilian.

The likes of Federico Valverde and Toni Kroos have all taken their turns to solve the problem of a combative midfielder in the team but to no avail.

With Casemiro almost getting the twilight of his career. it is important to bring in someone who will understudy him for a while before finally replacing the 28-year-old.

There have been links with Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, who has caught the eyes of the directors at the Spanish side.

But for the issues of coronavirus, Madrid could have ended the summer signing the young France international but any plans for that acquisition has been put on hold.

Just like Casemiro, Camavinga gives balance to the team and makes sure his presence behind the attacks gives them enough cover and freedom for them to move at the opposition team.

Though the club is understood to be also monitoring other positions including the central defence and a striker, the defensive midfield depart needs to be at the top of any list that Zinedine Zidane will come up with.

It will be necessary to give rest to Casemiro at some point of the season and allow someone to sot in for him, which is why the speculations of a move for Camavinga makes enough sense for both parties.
