Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted the club would consider a permanent move for Real Madrid loanee Martin Odegaard in the summer.

The Norway international has become very key for the Gunners since joining them in January – making eight starts and four substitute appearances across all competitions.

During that time, Odegaard has played a key role for the North London side and that has been enough to convince Arteta, who is already considering a long-term deal for the youngster.

Over the weekend, the attacking midfielder won the club’s ‘Man of the Match’ award as they battled from three goals down to end the game 3-3 against West Ham United.

When asked about the future plans concerning the Madrid player, the Spanish trainer revealed that he has high hopes and admiration for the player.

Speaking to reporters, the Spaniard said: “The way he steps on the pitch, he always wants the ball, the way he commands the pressing. He’s been really influential.

“I think we’ve all been a bit surprised because he looks really shy and humble, but when he steps on that pitch he’s a real character and he loves to play football.

“I love talented and creative players that all the time are willing to take the ball and make that happen, that they are mobile and as well hard working. He is one of them.”

Odegaard has two more years left on his current deal at the Santiago Bernabeu, however, there are reports the player could make a decision on his next move depending on the stance of Zinedine Zidane at the club.
